What (Not) To Wear

Posted on July 31st, 2008

I am constantly annoyed by people wearing things that are horrible for them.

Unless you are thin, please do not wear clothes that hug your body super tightly. I know that sounds mean, but you know it’s true. I’m not thin myself, and I at least have the decency to wear clothes that aren’t going to show off parts of my body that nobody else wants to see. Really, if you should be in a size 14, but you’re squeezing into a low-rise pair of jeans, size 12, and then pulling on a tight medium Hollister shirt, you’re going to have bumps and lumps that, frankly, look appalling. Basically, if you’re wearing a shirt and you can see the outline of your belly button through it, it’s too tight, and you look gross. Really gross. Instead, stick with jeans that have a higher rise, and shirts that fit you properly.

However, if you’re thin, that doesn’t mean you have an open invite to wear whatever you want. You cannot just walk around, showing as much skin as legally possible - unless you want to look like a tramp, that is. Too much cleavage is a big no-no, and will give you the I’m-really-really-desperate look.

This is a biggie for me: if you cannot take the time to take care of your feet,  DO NOT WEAR SHOES THAT ARE GOING TO SHOW OFF YOUR NASTY TOES. And honestly, I don’t think anybody with less-than-perfect feet should be wearing sandals at all, but that’s just me. If you can’t at least wash your feet, please just wear tennis shoes. Because it doesn’t matter HOW nice and expensive your clothes are, you’re going to look like straight-up trailer trash if you walk around with dirty toes in flip-flops. I cannot tell you how many dirty, mosquito-bitten feet I’ve seen shoved into $30 leather  flip-flops. Why? That’s like buying a really expensive deisgner purse to hold your mud pie collection. Or something. Just wash your feet, people. And keep your toenails trimmed.

If people would worry less about being up on the latest trends and start caring about dressing their body properly, everyone would look a lot better. Stop following the trends just so you can look ~kewl~ and ~with it~ to everyone else. Throw away those hideous gladiator sandals and those flowy shirts that are making you look pregnant. People will be far more impressed if you wear clothes that accentuate your body right.. even if your jeans are, like, soo last year.

The only thing I disagree with is gladiator sandals. I looooove them!

Few things annoy me more than a gigantic muffin top though. I wonder if those people don’t own a mirror, or if they just…. like that look…

Agreed. And agreed. There’s a reason why pedicures and nailcutters were invented :P.

Sorry, but I love my flowy dress, even if it may make me look pregnant. It’s the most comfortable dress I have. :P

But I agree people shouldn’t wear too small clothes.

I see bad outfits all the time - I live in “teh ghetto” lol. Mostly just a lot of girls wearing halter tops when they shouldn’t, and old people wearing…whatever the hell they feel like it I guess. Saw this old lady a couple days ago with really short shorts…and spider veins…and a gut…..there are probably worse examples but I’m too tired to think of them.

Oh and I wear flip flops despite my very rough feet. I used to have some pretty gnarly toenails but I took care of those recently. :P

You are actually the first person I know who agrees with me on gladiator sandals, which I think are just atrocious. Also, I agree with the fact that people should clothing that reveal every outline of their body; the size is just a number, people should wear the size they look best in and not just go for the smaller one.

Well, I actually hated gladiator sandals before they got into fashion again this year. But after seeing them so much, I kind of wanted a pair myself. Thank God I didn’t buy them. My feet (I’m a 38/7) look gigantic, and frankly, do I want to look like everybody else? I don’t think so…

    I agree with everything!

I do believe you are my soulmate. I was at the gas station the other day and this woman was there wearing the most age-inappropriate outfit, especially when her thighs were all wrinkly. White short shorts (with dark underwear, of course) and a too-tight tanktop that most have cut off her circulation. It was painful to look at her.

Although I’ve got to admit, there is an art to wearing the flowy shirts/dresses. If you get the right one, it looks like it’s supposed to flow, not like you’re trying to hide a baby bump. But most people haven’t figured out that not every baby doll top fits the same way. D:

I couldn’t agree more. People should wear whatever size fits their body the best.

    What (NOT) To Get Pierced:
    - Your upper lip (Monroe).
    - Your septum

    Sigh.

If it gets to be a month and you haven’t updated this… write something about college! There’s a ton of material there. I mean, you’re prolly very busy with the newness of it all, but holla at yo fans sometime.
